Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has called on the world to recognize the Holodomor of 1932-33 as genocide against the Ukrainian people, as has already been done by more than 20 countries.

He said this at the international summit of the Grain from Ukraine initiative, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.

"In the face of ongoing Russian aggression, it is no less important to recognize the Holodomor of 1932-33 as genocide against the Ukrainian people. This has already been done by the United States, Canada, Australia, Poland - a total of 17 countries. Brazil and the Czech Republic did it in 2022. The day before, I called on the states and international organizations that have not yet done so to do so. Romania adopted a respective decision on November 23, Ireland on November 24, Moldova on November 25. We call on others to join for the sake of this important historical truth," Zelensky said.

He said this would be a sign of solidarity with Ukraine in these difficult times for the country.

"Today, Ukraine observes a nationwide minute of silence. We will light a memorial candle in our windows and call on all countries and peoples to join, as evidence that we all remember the past and are ready to build a different, just future together," Zelensky said.

In conclusion, he invited everyone to Ukraine for the summit next year to evaluate joint efforts and outline further plans.

"We will be able to overcome all threats only together. Only together will we be able to win and build a civilized world without war, without terrorism, without hunger," Zelensky said.

On the 90th anniversary of the beginning of the Holodomor, Ukraine is launching the Grain from Ukraine scheme, with up to 60 Ukrainian grain ships expected to be sent by the middle of next year to some of the world's poorest countries in Africa.
