British Ambassador to Ukraine Melinda Simmons believes that this year's celebration of Vyshyvanka Day is especially important as Russian targets Ukraine’s culture and history as well as its territory and people.

“Seems to me that in a Russian invasion that so clearly targets Ukraine’s culture and history as well as its territory and people, Vyshyvanka Day becomes even more important to celebrate. So here I am, celebrating it in my favourite vyshyvanka,” Ambassador Simmons posted on Twitter, adding a hashtag #SlavaUkraini.

Ukraine celebrates Vyshyvanka Day on the third Thursday of May. Vyshyvanka Day was founded by Lesia Voroniuk, a student of the Chernivtsi National University, in 2006. Vyshyvanka is a traditional Ukrainian embroidered shirt.
