Office of Ombudsperson: 912 Ukrainian children adopted this year

Between January-August 2021, 709 children in Ukraine were adopted by citizens of Ukraine, 203 children were adopted by foreign nationals.

According to Ukrinform, the Office of Ombudsperson reported on its Telegram channel on the occasion of Adoption Day.

“Over the first eight months of 2021, Ukrainian families adopted 709 children, 203 [children] found parents outside Ukraine,” the report says.

According to the Ministry of Social Policy, 1,239 children in Ukraine were adopted in 2020, including 992 children adopted by Ukrainian citizens.

At the same time, there are almost 17,000 orphans in Ukraine. The vast majority of them live in foster families, families of guardians and family-type orphanages. Another 5,000 children live in orphanages and boarding schools of various types.

As a reminder, Ukraine marks Adoption Day on September 30.
