UNICEF says when Ukraine will receive next batch of COVID-19 vaccine from COVAX
She said this at a briefing on the occasion of the arrival of the first batch of a coronavirus vaccine as part of the COVAX Facility, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
“We expect the next batch of vaccines in late April - early May. And there will be more,” she said.
Sylwander explained that the delay in delivery of 117,000 doses of Pfizer vaccine, expected in mid-February, was due to some competition for vaccines around the world. According to her, countries such as the United States and the United Kingdom purchased a large number of vaccines, making it difficult for COVAX to procure vaccines for low- and middle-income countries.
Sylwander recalled that the COVAX Facility includes 171 countries.
She also noted that Ukraine should receive 8 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine under the COVAX Facility.
As Ukrinform reported, the first batch of a coronavirus vaccine made by Pfizer-BioNTech was delivered to Ukraine on April 16.
The Comirnaty vaccine is an mRNA-based vaccine against COVID-19, with a 95% efficacy. It was registered in Ukraine on February 22, 2021.
