Ukraine’s folk arts and crafts market exports estimated at 2.2B

“Let’s take the area of folk arts and crafts. The potential we can count on today is UAH 4 billion in imports and UAH 2.2 billion in exports. But it is very important to form a market of folk arts and crafts. It is very fragmented, no one has dealt with it for a long time. The post-Soviet period, when many plates and embroidered shirts were produced, is over. There is no such powerful customer as the state anymore. Therefore, it is important to transform this area, put in on modern footing in order to unleash its great potential. And not only to preserve masters but to give impetus to further development of this area,” Minister of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine Oleksandr Tkachenko said during the All-Ukrainian Forum “Ukraine 30. Culture. Media. Tourism”, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

As noted, the development of this area requires the introduction of register and system of product labeling, geographical indications, new sales markets, cross-sectoral collaborations with fashion and design, increased added value and monetization of products.

As reported, Ukraine and Europe will cooperate in creation and promotion of the concepts of cultural routes in the common cultural space.
