Zelensky signs law to increase benefits for children with serious illnesses

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has signed a law increasing benefits for children with serious illnesses, according to the website of the head of state.

"President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky has signed law No. 1176-IX 'On the introduction of amendments to Article 18 of the law of Ukraine 'On state assistance to families with children' to increase assistance to children with serious illnesses who have not been diagnosed with a disability.' The Verkhovna Rada approved the law on February 2, 2021," the statement reads.

The document increases the amount of monthly state aid for children with severe perinatal injury to the nervous system, severe congenital malformations, rare diseases, cancer, oncohematological diseases, cerebral palsy, severe mental disorders, type I diabetes, acute or chronic kidney disease (stage 4), for children who have suffered serious injuries, need organ transplants, need palliative care, those who have not been diagnosed with a disability, from one subsistence minimum for persons who have lost their ability to work to two subsistence minimums established for children of the appropriate age.

The law comes into force on January 1, 2022.
