The UN agencies and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) will receive CAD 5.5 million (about USD 4.4 million) from Canada to provide vital assistance to people living in the conflict zone in eastern Ukraine.

The Permanent Mission of Canada to the United Nations wrote this on its Twitter account.

"Canada will provide CAD 5.5 million to UN agencies and ICRC in 2021 to help deliver life-saving assistance to over 1.9 million people in conflict-affected areas of eastern Ukraine, protect those living near the contact line and respond to growing needs due to COVID-19," the report reads.

As reported, according to the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), the number of children living in poverty in eastern Ukraine due to the armed conflict and the consequences of the coronavirus pandemic increased from 36% to over 50% last year.
