Sanctions against Chinese companies not to affect Sinovac vaccine supplies – Stepanov

Minister of Health Maksym Stepanov has said that sanctions imposed by the Ukrainian government against some Chinese companies will not affect the supplies of Sinovac's COVID-19 vaccine to Ukraine.

The minister said this during an hour of questions to the Government held in the Verkhovna Rada on February 5, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

“There are no disruptions in the supply of vaccines," Stepanov said.

As reported by Ukrinform, in late December 2020, Ukraine signed an agreement to purchase about 2 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine from the Chinese company Sinovac Biotech.

Meanwhile, Ukraine has imposed sanctions against some legal entities and individuals, including Motor Sich investors.

According to documents published on the president's website, sanctions have been imposed for three years against China’s Skyrizon Aircraft Holdings Limited, which owns 10% of the Ukrainian engine manufacturer Motor Sich, the Chinese company Beijing Skyrizon, which wants to buy shares in Motor Sich and related enterprises.

The sanctions list includes Skyrizon Aircraft Holdings Limited and Hong Kong Skyrizon Holdings Limited, owned by Beijing Skyrizon Aviation Industry Investment, Beijing Skyrizon itself, and Beijing Xinwei Technology Group Co., which controls Beijing Skyrizon.
