The process of COVID-19 vaccination in Ukraine will begin in February and the state will receive Pfizer/BioNTech vaccines in the coming weeks, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal has said.

"We are talking about 117,000 doses of the [Pfizer] vaccine under the COVAX program, which will be used primarily to vaccinate doctors who are at the forefront of the fight against coronavirus," he said at a government meeting on Wednesday, February 3.

Shmyhal stressed that this batch of the vaccine from Pfizer/BioNTech was just the beginning, with much larger deliveries expected in February or early March.

"Only a tested and safe vaccine that has passed all the necessary clinical trials and is approved in other developed countries will be delivered to our country. I assure you that everyone who wants to get a free and safe vaccine will be given this opportunity in accordance with the national vaccination plan," he said.

He noted that the infrastructure for the organization of the vaccination process had already been prepared.

"In total, 500 mobile vaccination teams will be working in Ukraine. The first 50 will start working this month in all regions of the country. In addition, at the initial stage, 1,500 vaccination rooms and 50 centers will be deployed in big cities," Shmyhal said.

In total, according to the prime minister, more than 4,000 vaccination sites will be operating across the country.
