Stepanov: COVID-19 mortality rate in Ukraine three times lower than in UK

Ukraine reported 27,150 COVID-19 cases last week. Currently, 18,500 people stay in hospitals.

“Last week, 27,150 COVID-19 cases were recorded. Over the first week of December, we had 89,322 COVID-19 cases. As for the number of people who stay in hospitals with COVID-19 diagnosis or corresponding symptoms, there are 18,551 such people now in contrast to the first week of December, when there were 28,163 people in need of hospital care,” Health Minister of Ukraine Maksym Stepanov said at a briefing.

The minister also informed that Ukraine ranks 34th in Europe in terms of mortality rate per 1 million people. In particular, COVID-19 mortality rate in Ukraine is three times lower than in the UK, and 2.5 times lower than in France, Stepanov noted.

As of February 2, Ukraine has reported a total of 1,223,879 COVID-19 cases, including 2,394 new cases recorded in the past 24 hours.
