In February, Ukraine will receive 117,000 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, which will be distributed among health workers providing care for COVID-19 patients, Deputy Health Minister, Chief State Sanitary Doctor of Ukraine Viktor Liashko has said.

"Yes! Ukraine received a response from COVAX. In February, Ukraine will receive 117,000 doses of mRNA vaccine from the U.S.-made Pfizer-BioNTech, which will be immediately distributed among health workers who provide care for COVID-19 patients,” he wrote on his Facebook page.

At the same time, Liashko noted that the COVAX Facility received applications from 72 countries, of which 18 countries were selected, including Ukraine. "This once again confirms that Ukraine is able to provide the required cold chain and vaccine logistics with ultra-low storage conditions," he added.

In addition, according to Liashko, in the first half of the year, starting from February, Ukraine will be able to receive from 2.2 to 3.7 million doses of AstraZeneca/Oxford vaccine for the next stages of the campaign. "And this is only within the framework of the COVAX Facility," he stressed.

As reported, Ukraine expects to receive from 8 to 16 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine free of charge as part of the global COVAX initiative.

The Health Ministry plans to vaccinate 50% of the population of Ukraine in 2021-2022.

As of January 30, Ukraine reported 1,216,278 laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 cases, including 4,685 new cases recorded over the past 24 hours.
