The Ukrainian Embassy is in contact with Ukrainian sailors who are on board the ship SFL Kate in Malaysia and contracted COVID-19, Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman Oleg Nikolenko has said on Twitter.

The possibility of a doctor visiting the ship is being considered, he said.

"The Embassy of Ukraine in Malaysia is in contact with Ukrainian sailors. In cooperation with the shipowner, the possibility of a doctor visiting the ship for the provision of emergency medical care is being worked out as a matter of urgency," Nikolenko said.

Earlier media reports said that the Malaysian authorities did not provide for several days assistance to eight SFL Kate crew members with COVID-19.

Among them are two Ukrainians - the ship's captain, Ihor Starytskyi, and senior mechanic Valerii Hryhoriev.
