Verkhovna Rada speaker, ICRC president discuss humanitarian situation in Donbas

According to the Parliament’s official portal, the interlocutors discussed the situation in Donbas, given the approaching winter season. “We highly appreciate the humanitarian support provided to the temporarily occupied territories and territories located directly along the contact line. Our citizens - citizens of Ukraine are on both sides,” Razumkov stressed.

He thanked for the comprehensive work carried out by the ICRC for the citizens of Ukraine held in the temporarily occupied territories of Donbas and Crimea. “Unfortunately, we very often come across a situation where the agreements reached at the highest political level are not implemented. And we see such cases both in Crimea and in the so-called LPR / DPR,” the speaker said.

Razumkov said that Ukraine is making every effort to make possible the process of releasing citizens who are being held illegally, and noted the important role of the ICRC in this process.

In turn, Peter Maurer noted the stable dialogue between the ICRC and the Verkhovna Rada and pledged his readiness to deepen cooperation.
