Over 9.5 mln people over age of 60 live in Ukraine - Social Policy Ministry
"More than 9.5 million people over the age of 60 live in Ukraine, which is a fifth of its population, and even a third in rural areas. Life expectancy is 66 years for men and 76 years for women," the report reads.
According to the report, the national demographic forecast shows that by 2025, the share of people over 60 will exceed 25%, people over 65 and older - 18.4%, and by 2030 - more than 26% and 20%, respectively.
The ministry reported that at a round table meeting entitled "Protection of the Rights of the Elderly" held online, Deputy Social Policy Minister Borys Lebedtsov said that Ukraine is currently one of the countries in the world where the share of the elderly in the population structure is growing rapidly.
"Demographic forecasts indicate the need to improve socio-economic policy in the light of demographic trends," Lebedtsov said.
