Ninety-four Ukrainian political prisoners, residents of the Crimean peninsula are held in the temporarily occupied Crimea and the Russian Federation, about 70 of them are Crimean Tatars.

"As for the illegally detained Ukrainian citizens living in Crimea, 94 Ukrainian political prisoners are held now in the territory of the temporarily occupied Crimea and the Russian Federation, about 70 of them are Crimean Tatars," Permanent Representative of the President of Ukraine to the Autonomous Republic of Crimea Anton Korynevych said, the President's website informs.

As noted, the issue of release of illegally detained citizens of Ukraine is constantly raised by representatives of the Ukrainian authorities, primarily the President and diplomats, at the international level.

"And, in our opinion, it is really important to adopt legislation and pass a law that would guarantee social and legal protection of political prisoners, captives, and their families on part of the state," Korynevych said.
