Up to 5 million tourists are expected to arrive in Odesa region in the summer of 2020 due to the closure of borders as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Chairman of Odesa Regional State Administration Maksym Kutsy said this at a meeting with reporters on May 12, the Administration’s press service reported.

“Odesa region will be a 100% tourist center of Ukraine this year. According to experts, 4-5 million tourists are expected to arrive in the region during the summer holidays,” Kutsy said.

He added that "if we gradually come out of quarantine, there should be no special warnings or measures."

According to the chairman of Odesa Regional State Administration, a high influx of tourists is expected due to the fact that air traffic with other countries has been suspended for the time being. "That is why we expect the main flow of tourists in Odesa region," he said.

He also stressed that the regional authorities would comply with all recommendations of the Cabinet of Ministers and the Ministry of Health on the organization of recreation areas for people during the summer holidays.
