Subway, intercity transport operation may be resumed in Ukraine by mid-summer

"Subway and intercity transport is a very important issue. Until we pass this peak, imagine how two million people gather in subway cars – it’s very close contact. Subway and intercity transport could be a catalyst for the spread of disease," Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal said on the air of 1+1 TV channel.

Shmyhal does not make forecasts on when the operation of subway and intercity transport will be resumed. According to him, this is possible by mid-summer.

At the same time, the municipal public transport works and the number of vehicles has been even increased in cooperation with the mayors, the Prime Minister noted.

As reported, on March 12, the Government introduced the quarantine in Ukraine to counteract the spread of COVID-19 coronavirus infection. In particular, trading establishments were closed except groceries, pharmacies, gas stations, and banks. The operation of subway in Kyiv, Kharkiv, and Dnipro, municipal, intercity, and interregional road, rail, and air transport services were suspended.

The quarantine was extended until May 22 but restriction measures were eased from May 11.
