The next challenge related to the development of a coronavirus outbreak will be the May holidays, during which large crowds must be avoided.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said this at a daily meeting with government and law enforcement officials to combat the COVID-19 pandemic, the press service of the head of state reported.

The relatively high number of ill patients over the last day - 467 people - may be an echo of Easter. In terms of the dynamics of the spread of the disease, Mykolaiv region becomes a leader with 41 new cases recorded over the day.

“We have a well-established system for monitoring the spread of the epidemic. We are constantly improving our help system. Our next challenge will be the May holidays. I hope we will pass them calmly, without crowds of people,” Zelensky said.

Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal reported that the United Nations allocates funds to the countries in need to combat coronavirus. Ukraine is to receive USD 140 million.

“We are now considering options where the given money should be allocated. We believe they should be sent to the regions adjacent to the contact line,” the prime minister said.

As reported, the Cabinet of Ministers approved a draft resolution extending the coronavirus lockdown until May 11, 2020.

Ukraine introduced the lockdown on March 12, 2020 to counter the spread of coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

As of 09:00 on April 22, Ukraine reported 6,592 laboratory-confirmed Covid-19 cases, including 174 deaths and 424 recoveries.
