Kyiv expects to receive more than 100,000 medical masks next week, according to Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko.

“Next week, we expect to receive over 100,000 masks that we have ordered for manufacturing at Ukrainian enterprises. Their manufacturing is underway. We have also ordered masks from abroad,” Klitschko stated on the Ukrainian radio, the mayor’s press service reported.

According to Klitschko, the situation with the absence of medical masks in pharmacies is critical.

With about 20,000 masks available in the city, the city authorities are now distributing them among hospitals, public utilities and enterprises essential for the city's functioning.

At the same time, he has noted that not only Ukraine is experiencing a lack of personal protective equipment, other countries are facing the same problem too.

As of March 19, Ukraine had 16 confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus COVID-19, including two deaths.

On March 12, Ukraine declared a nationwide quarantine for a period of three weeks and introduced a package of anti-epidemic measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
