Royal Canadian Mint again issues pysanka coin
It is the fifth pysanka coin in the Royal Canadian Mint collection. This year, it is decorated with traditional Ukrainian patterns.
“More than an Easter egg, this pure silver pysanka coin (our fifth) is a celebration of life and the season of new beginnings. Its colour motifs, like the eight-pointed rose, are every bit as meaningful as those written on traditional pysanky, where intricate shapes and geometric patterns form a captivating visual language. It’s an uplifting celebration of spring, and it’s yours to enjoy year-round!” reads the description of coin on the Royal Canadian Mint website.
Designed by Canadian artist of Ukrainian descent Dave Melnychuk, the pysanka features a main band that deals with matters of the eternal. The eight-pointed roses represent the heart and a heightened state of awareness, while the stars represent the illuminating powers of the sun. The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt.
A coin is composed of 31.82 g of pure silver and has a face value of $20 CAD.
