Avakov: 1,671 law enforcers killed in line of duty over years of independence

Over the years of Ukraine’s independence, 1,671 law enforcement officers were killed while performing their duties.

Interior Minister Arsen Avakov stated this at a ceremony to honor the fallen law enforcers, the ministry’s wrote on its Facebook page.

“During the years of Ukraine's independence, 1,671 law enforcement officers died in the line of duty, and 455 law enforcement officers have been killed since the start of hostilities in eastern Ukraine,” the minister said.

Those present at the ceremony also laid flowers at the memorial plaques bearing the names of fallen law enforcers.

A reminder that Ukraine on August 22 marks the Day of Remembrance for Fallen Law Enforcers.
