The duration of the artificial detention of vessels in the Kerch Strait heading for Mariupol or Berdiansk remains three or four times higher than before the blockade.

The chairman of the supervisory board of the Maidan of Foreign Affairs, Andrii Klymenko, wrote this on his Facebook page in a report on the duration of the artificial detention of vessels in the Kerch Strait heading to and from Mariupol and Berdiansk as of March 1, 2019.

"The monitoring group for the Maidan of Foreign Affairs, the Black Sea Institute of Strategic Studies and the editorial board of BlackSeaNews report on statistical indicators of the duration of the artificial detention of vessels in February 2019 and for the entire period of the blockade: an average of 30.8 hours at the entrance to the Sea of Azov, which is almost equal to figures from January, but still higher than at the beginning of the blockade of the Kerch Strait in July; and an average of 30.6 hours at the exit from the Sea of Azov (it was 23.9 hours in January)," the expert said.

According to him, "no termination of the blockade" is being discussed now. The duration of the artificial detention of vessels remains three to four times higher than before the blockade of the Kerch Strait, he said.

According to the expert, no significant changes in the Kerch Strait should be expected in the coming month since "the fate of Nord Stream 2 and the elections has not been decided yet." Until Crimea remains occupied, the key to the Kerch Strait and the Sea of Azov will remain in the hands of the invading state, Klymenko said.
