Ukraine's Prosecutor General's Office (PGO) has completed the investigation against former officials who gave orders to shoot anti-government protesters on Maidan Nezalezhnosti (Independence Square) in Kyiv, PGO Chief Yuriy Lutsenko has reported on his Facebook page.

"On the day of the fifth anniversary of the bloody events I can say for sure that the investigation has identified not only 66 people suspected of committing murders. This year, the PGO has actually completed the investigation against those who gave criminal orders that led to killings and injuries on the Maidan," Lutsenko said.

According to him, the criminal case against former officials will be sent to court after the parliament decides to extend the absentia trial procedure.

"A commission of experts, on the basis of 988 volumes of investigation materials, has concluded that the deaths and wounds of participants in peaceful gatherings on the Maidan are directly related to the decisions and actions of former President Viktor Yanukovych, former SBU Chief Oleksandr Yakymenko and his subordinates Totsky, Hanzha, Potiyevsky, Shcheholev, former Interior Minister Zakharchenko and his subordinates Shuliak, Konoplianyk, Mykolenko, former Defense Minister Lebedev and former Chief of the General Staff Zamana," he added.
