Ukrainian Red Cross Society provides over UAH 1 bln in humanitarian assistance
"In 2014-2018, the Society provided over UAH 1 billion in humanitarian assistance to the victims of the armed conflict in eastern Ukraine and other vulnerable groups of the population, including UAH 109 million to the medical institutions," Acting President of the Ukrainian Red Cross Society Mykola Polishchuk said during a press conference at the Ukrinform news agency.
In turn, Director General of the National Committee of the Red Cross Society Lilia Bilous outlined the main directions of humanitarian assistance provision.
"Apart from cooperation with medical institutions and delivery of humanitarian aid to the medical institutions, there is is also cooperation with the Luxembourg Red Cross in Donetsk region, where the restoration of medical facilities is underway, the humanitarian assistance of primary necessities," she said.
The Director General of the Committee also stated that the Society was involved in organizing the assistance through volunteers, as well as responding to the consequences of various emergencies.
In addition, during the press conference, the representatives of the Red Cross Society highlighted the main priority directions of the activity for 2019-2021: emergency response, volunteer movement development, mobile medical brigades, first aid training, psychosocial support, patronage service, as well as support for the households.
The Ukrainian Red Cross Society is part of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, the largest humanitarian network in the world. Guided by the principles of neutrality and indivisibility, the Movement provides assistance to the victims of emergencies and armed conflicts.
