Ukrainian sailor released from captivity of Nigerian pirates

Ukrainian sailor Valeriy Zubytsky, a crewmember of the Swiss vessel MV Glarus who was kidnapped by pirates in Nigeria's territorial waters, is due to return home on Tuesday, October 30, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin has said.

"I thank everyone who helped save the team of the Swiss merchant vessel MV Glarus, which was kidnapped by pirates in the Nigerian territorial waters on September 22. Valeriy Zubytsky, one of the 12 crewmembers, will return to Odesa tomorrow," he wrote on Twitter.

The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said on September 24 that there were three citizens of Ukraine on board the Swiss merchant vessel MV Glarus, which was attacked by pirates in the Nigerian Gulf on September 22, and one of them was captured.
