ІМІ: Ukrinform is one of leaders in compliance with journalistic standards
This is stated in the press release of the NGO "Institute of Mass Information", which was made public during the conference "Quality of news on the eve of elections in Ukraine: old and new challenges", an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
"Based on the study results, the following sites became the best in terms of compliance with the professional journalistic standards: liga.net, hromadske.ua, radiosvoboda.org, ukrinform.ua. The sites znaj.ua, from-ua.com, politeka.net, apostrophe.ua, telegraf.com, vesti.ru and kp.ru showed the worst results," reads the press release.
In general, out of 5,000 news items, which were analyzed by the experts, almost 1,000 materials did not meet journalistic standards. Most often, according to the IMI, the journalists used unreliable sources of information (9.56%), namely posts from social networks, dubious websites, commentaries of biased experts, etc.
"The sites apostrophe.ua (30 news items out of 100), from-ua.com (22 out of 100), politeka.net (22 out of 100) and znaj.ua (21 out of 100) used the greatest number of questionable sources," the experts say.
As noted, on average 20% of news items in the Ukrainian online media outlets do not meet journalistic standards, and unreliability and sources of information remain the main problem with the quality of news.
The experts of the NGO "Institute of Mass Information" studied 50 most popular news sites in Ukraine. The monitoring was conducted with the assistance of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic. The news items were analyzed on the following categories: reference to sources, accuracy, correspondence between headline and content, lack of evaluative judgments in the text, manipulation with emotions, hate speech.
