Ukraine marks 1030th anniversary of Kyivan Rus-Ukraine Christianization

On July 28, the ceremonial events on the occasion of the 1030th anniversary of the conversion of the Kyivan Rus-Ukraine to Christianity are held in Kyiv with the participation of Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko.

The celebrations begin with a state event on Saint Volodymyr Hill near the monument to Prince Volodymyr the Great, where the president delivers a speech, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

In the morning, Patriarch of Kyiv and All Rus-Ukraine Filaret celebrates the liturgy at St. Volodymyr's Cathedral.

The religious procession "Prayer for Ukraine" starts at 11:30 am and will end with a prayer service at Saint Volodymyr Hill and the prayer for Ukraine.

The Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Kyiv Patriarchate (UOC-KP) invites everyone to pray for Ukraine, for victory and a fair world, and for a single Ukrainian Orthodox Church.

A high-ranking delegation from Constantinople from Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew arrived in Kyiv at the invitation of President Petro Poroshenko to celebrate the 1030th anniversary of the Kyivan Rus-Ukraine Christianization.

Earlier, the Internal Ministry of Ukraine reported that 5,000 law enforcement officers were attracted to ensure public order in the capital on July 27-28.

The celebration of the 1030th anniversary of the Christianization of the Kyivan Rus-Ukraine is held in accordance with a presidential decree of August 8, 2017.
