Donetsk regional governor Zhebrivsky resigns

Pavlo Zhebrivsky, chairman of Donetsk Regional State Administration and chief of the regional military and civilian administration, has tendered his resignation.

He wrote this on his Facebook page.

"On Saturday, I met with Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and asked him about my resignation. He accepted my application, and on Wednesday it should be considered by the Cabinet of Ministers. I thank my team for their work, and I thank residents of Donetsk region for their support and understanding. We proved to the whole world that Donetsk region is part of Ukraine!" reads the statement.

Zhebrivsky recalled that exactly three years ago, the president appointed him head of the regional state administration and chief of the regional military and civilian administration.

"Donetsk region has been changing rapidly over the past three years. Twelve repaired hub schools have already opened in the region, 12 more will open by September 1, and there will already be 30 of them by the end of 2018," he said.

Among his achievements, he also named the opening of about a hundred youth centers, 150 sports grounds, as well as large-scale work on the reconstruction of parks in cities, towns and villages.

"We are building four solid waste landfills according to modern European technologies and opening centers for the provision of administrative services. We also started implementing a project to create social offices... But the main thing is that the Ukrainian essence of Donetsk region is reviving. Cities and streets have returned their historical names, and the Ukrainian language is heard in the corridors and offices of the regional administration. Four cities translated all signs and signboards into Ukrainian," Zhebrivsky said, expressing hope that his successor will continue this work.
