The police have opened 19 criminal proceedings following the elections to united territorial communities in Ukraine, Deputy Head of the National Police and Head of the Main Investigation Department Vitaliy Nevhad has said.

"During these elections, police officers found violations of electoral legislation. Most of them concerned the obstruction of the exercise of electoral rights and the bribing of voters. Nevhad noted that 19 criminal proceedings had been initiated over the above cases," the media liaisons office of the National Police of Ukraine reported on Thursday, May 3.

In particular, violations were recorded in Odesa and Dnipropetrovsk regions (five cases in each region), Kharkiv region (three), Kirovohrad region (two), and Zaporizhia, Poltava, Ternopil and Khmelnytsky regions (one case in each of them). Law enforcement officers are currently taking the necessary measures and investigative actions to identify and bring perpetrators to justice.

Earlier, the Interior Ministry proposed strengthening liability for violations of electoral law.
