National Cancer Institute: 160 Ukrainians die of cancer daily
Director of the National Cancer Institute Olena Kolesnyk said this at a briefing, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
"Every day, 373 cases of cancer are registered. 160 people die of cancer every day. 30% of those who register after the medical testing have Stage 3 or 4 cancer," Kolesnyk said.
In 2017, 136 thousand cancer patients were registered. According to the National Cancer Registry, more than 1 million Ukrainians are ill with cancer, including about 1,000 children. Every fourth man and every sixth woman has a risk of getting cancer.
Kolesnyk notes that the early detection of cancer at Stage 1 or 2 makes it possible to completely treat cancer in almost 100% cases. 40% of all cancer cases can be prevented by changing lifestyle - quitting smoking, drinking alcohol, controlling weight, etc.
