People with disabilities make up about 6% of the whole population in Ukraine.

Vice Prime Minister Pavlo Rozenko said this at a meeting of the government’s Council on the Issues of Persons with Disabilities, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

“The problem of protecting people with disabilities is a particularly important issue, taking into account growth in their number in the overall population structure. In particular, if in the late 1980s, the total number of people with disabilities made up three percent of the total population, then at present they number about six percent. As of early 2017, the total number of people with disabilities in Ukraine totaled 2 million 600 thousand people,” Rozenko said.

He added that the state pays considerable attention to the fulfillment of its international obligations on the protection of persons with disabilities.
