Poll: One-third of Ukrainians want to get biometric passport

About one-third of Ukrainians intend to get a biometric passport for travels abroad to make advantage of the visa-free regime with the European Union in the near future.

Mykhailo Peresunko, the executive director of the Kyiv Press Club said this while presenting the results of the public opinion poll at the Ukrinform news agency on Tuesday.

"About one-third of Ukrainians have specific plans to make advantage of the visa-free regime with the EU in the near future and to file the needed documents to be issued a biometric passport that will give the opportunity to travel. Another one-third of Ukrainians have the same plans but they are not specific in time," Peresunko said.

At the same time, as noted, 39% of respondents said they did not plan to get a biometric passport, while 26.9% of Ukrainians plan to get a passport some time or other.

Peresunko stressed that 11% of respondents, "or about every 10th Ukrainian citizen plans to get a biometric passport by the end of the year, and every 10th respondent has already been issued the document."
