Poroshenko signs law on Ukrainian language television quotas

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has signed the law on Ukrainian language television quotas.

This is stated on the President’s official Twitter page.

"I thank the media representatives for their proposals for the introduction of quotas and the return of the Ukrainian language to Ukrainian media. I have signed the relevant law," Poroshenko wrote.

May 23, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine passed the law on amending certain laws of Ukraine on the language of audiovisual (electronic) media.

According to the law, the weekly share of TV programs and films in the state language must be at least 75% in each time span between 07:00 and 18:00 and between 18:00 and 22:00 for national and regional television and radio broadcasting organizations and at least 60% for local broadcasting companies.
