It will be more expensive to stop Russia later - Latvian Foreign Minister

Latvia’s foreign minister Krišjānis Kariņš said that the only way to stop Russia is to help Ukraine win the war now, because it will cost even more later.

According to Ukrinform, this was reported by The Guardian.

"We have to open up our eyes and realise that Russia will not stop its war in Ukraine – the only way that Russia will stop is if it’s actively stopped," the official said.

According to him, Ukrainians are ready to fight.

"The Ukrainians need our western, undivided support – European Union support," Kariņš said.

He noted that the EU must finally decide "to have funding for Ukraine for the next years so that we can continue to support its government."

"And we also have to make sure that we provide the weapons and the ammunition that they need in order to do this task [of winning the war]," the Latvian minister said.

"For anyone who thinks that it’s expensive to support Ukraine, that this money is better spent elsewhere, I can only say it will only get more expensive in the future. If we do not help Ukraine stop Russia now, it will be only all the more expensive for us later, because Russia will not stop," the politician said.

As reported, Latvian President Edgars Rinkēvičs called for immediate military and financial assistance to Ukraine after Russia's massive missile strike on January 2.
