The United States supports Ukraine's Euro-Atlantic aspirations for membership in NATO.

U.S. Ambassador to NATO Kay Bailey Hutchison said this at a briefing on Thursday in Brussels, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.

"We support the aspirations of Ukraine to become a member of NATO," the ambassador assured.

The ambassador welcomes the Euro-Atlantic aspirations of Ukrainians who do not want to be dependent on Russia.

She also stresses that Ukraine has made progress on the path of reforms necessary for membership in NATO, but she urges to keep moving.

Kay Bailey also says that the United States hopes that meetings of the Ukraine-NATO Commission at the ministerial level, which are currently being blocked by Hungary, will resume. The ambassador assures that the American side is actively working on this issue.

As Ukrinform reported, the foreign ministers of the NATO member states will discuss the Euro-Atlantic aspirations of Ukraine for membership in Alliance on Friday.

At the same time, Hungary has blocked the holding of a meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Commission at the ministerial level for the third time, thus expressing its claims regarding the language article of the Ukrainian law on education.
