SBU claims no Alfa fighters near Dnipro hotel

Ukrinform
KYIV, April 1 /Ukrinform/. The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has denied reports that fighters of the Alfa special unit were on the scene of shooting near the Dnipro hotel in Kyiv on Monday evening.

"Reports about the presence of Alfa at the crime scene do not match the reality, none of the fighters of this unit were there," SBU spokeswoman Maryna Ostapenko said told a Ukrinform reporter on Tuesday.

She also denied that members of the Right Sector left their headquarters at the Dnipro hotel together with SBU agents and headed for one of the camps near Kyiv, as Interior Minister Arsen Avakov wrote this on his Facebook page.

"The SBU did not bring anybody out. The Interior Ministry deals with this case," Ostapenko said.

A reminder that journalists and witnesses noticed at night near the Dnipro hotel, where the Right Sector's headquarters are based, Serhiy Asaveliuk, who allegedly orchestrated a sniper shooting of protesters on Instytutska Street February 20.

As reported, late on Monday, near the Mafia restaurant on Khreshchatyk Street, a Right Sector activist opened fire and then barricaded himself in the toilet of the restaurant, and later his colleagues escorted him to the Dnipro Hotel.
