"Today, 559 people were evacuated from dangerous areas by volunteers, rescuers, and police. 2,334 residents of the region have already been evacuated. Most of them are from the Korabel microdistrict in Kherson city, where 1,765 Kherson residents were rescued. According to preliminary estimates, about 16,000 people will have to be evacuated from the flood zone on the right bank if the water level continues to rise," Oleksandr Prokudin, Head of the Kherson Regional Military Administration, said during the United News telethon.
According to him, in the morning the average flood level was at 5.61 m, and now it is 5.58 m. However, the situation remains quite difficult because the water level may rise according to forecasts.
"600 sq km of Kherson region have been flooded, of which 32% is the right bank and 68% is our temporarily occupied left bank. Twenty-eight settlements were flooded on the right bank. According to preliminary data, 3,500 houses were damaged by the water. Kakhovka and Beryslav districts suffered the most," Prokudin added.
As Ukrinform reported, Russian troops blew up the Kakhovka HPP on June 6. Evacuation of people from potential flood areas continues.
