Court arrests suspect in deadly road accident in Odesa

A court has chosen a measure of restraint in the form of detention without the right to post bail for a 27-year-old driver of a BMW who is suspected of committing a deadly road accident in Odesa on September 8, the prosecutor general's press secretary, Larysa Sarhan, has said on Facebook.

"At the request of the Odesa Regional Prosecutor's Office (prosecutor Anatoliy Rusu, a procedural manager in the case on the road accident), a 27-year-old BMW driver suspected of committing a fatal accident in Odesa on September 8 this year has been taken into custody without the right to post bail," Sarhan wrote.

A BMW driver running the red light at high speed collided with a Skoda in Odesa on September 8. The BMW flew over the tram rails, hitting people at a bus stop. A 55-year-old woman and a 52-year-old man died on the spot. One person is in a very grave condition.

A 20-year-old passenger of the BMW, a 30-year-old woman and a cadet standing on the roadside were injured.

On September 9, the prosecutor's office served the BMW driver with a notice of suspicion.
