President demands perpetrators of Kalynivka tragedy be brought to justice
The head of state wrote this on his Facebook page on Thursday.
"We have to learn to protect our strategic facilities from sabotage groups. If there are other scenarios, then we will bring to justice those responsible under other scenarios. In the morning I have ordered to strengthen the defense and security of strategic facilities by the Armed Forces. We cannot put up with these events any longer!" Poroshenko said.
He also urged everyone to prepare carefully for a National Security and Defense Council meeting so that comprehensive measures can be taken as soon as possible in order to prevent the possible repeat of the tragedy.
As reported, a fire broke out at ammunition depots in Kalynivka on September 26, which subsequently led to artillery shells exploding. About 30,000 people were evacuated from the zone of possible danger.
Traffic is currently blocked on the Zhytomyr-Mohyliv-Podilsky road, and the no-fly zone was created within a radius of 50 kilometers from Kalynivka. The Kalynivka-Ukrflora and Kalynivka-Lavrivka power lines were de-energized. Gas supply to the villages of Dorozhne, Medvidka and Lavrivka was cut off.
According to the latest reports from the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, the intensity of explosions in the ammunition depots in Kalynivka has significantly decreased, so the demining of the territory has begun.
