Two Ukrainian citizens have been evacuated from St Martin island to the island of Martinique in the Caribbean Sea from devastating hurricane Irma.

Consular Service Department of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry posted this on Twitter, referring to the French Foreign Ministry crisis center.

"Crisis center of the French Foreign Ministry: Two Ukrainian citizens were evacuated from St Martin island to the island of Martinique #Irma. Nothing poses threat to their lives," the tweet reads.

Irma has become the most powerful and destructive hurricane to hit the USA in last 10 years. It has wrought devastation to the Caribbean region, hitting many small islands before moving on to the Bahamas, Cuba and now Florida.

Hurricane Irma has killed at least 35 people in the Caribbean.
