Alexander Hug: Donetsk region could be polluted from waste storage of phenol plant

Donetsk region is facing a threat of pollution from of a phenol plant, as plant’s waste storage facilities in Novhorodske are close to the contact line, according to Deputy Chief of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission to Ukraine (SMM) Alexander Hug.

“Chemical waste storage of phenol plant in government-controlled Novhorodske caught between positions of sides only 400m apart,” Hug wrote on Twitter.

According to him, ceasefire and disengagement are of extreme need in this area, otherwise “in worst case scenario, entire the Donetsk region could be polluted”.
