The International Atomic Energy Agency is investigating the cause of a temporary external power outage at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant on Thursday evening.

This is according to a statement posted by the agency on X, Ukrinform reports.

“Ukraine‘s ZNPP temporarily lost all off-site power this evening, for second time in less than a week and 14th time during the conflict, IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi says. Connection restored after about 40 minutes. Cause of power loss is not yet known. IAEA team at the site is investigating and monitoring the situation,” the agency said.

The watchdog stressed that the loss of off-site power once again highlights the “continued precarious nuclear safety situation” at the facility.

As previously reported, the plant also lost its main external power line on April 14, though electricity was restored after roughly an hour and a half.
