Switzerland to finance components for Ukrzaliznytsia railway tracks
The Ministry for Development of Communities and Territories of Ukraine stated this on its website, according to Ukrinform.
A corresponding memorandum of understanding was signed by JSC "Ukrzaliznytsia" together with the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) and the private Swiss companies Arthur Flury AG and Schwihag AG.
Implementation of the memorandum will take place through two key projects: "Components for the Contact Network" (Arthur Flury AG) and the "Schwihag Ukraine" project (Schwihag AG). The total budget of the projects amounts to CHF 27.3 million, equivalent to more than EUR 29 million.
The financing of materials for Ukrzaliznytsia is provided by the Swiss government. The projects of the companies supplying materials to Ukraine were selected by the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO). The delivery of materials and components will be carried out by the private Swiss companies Schwihag AG and Arthur Flury AG.
Over the course of three years, Ukrzaliznytsia will receive more than 1.04 million sets of rail fastenings, which will make it possible to cover approximately 250 km of railway tracks.
In addition, around 4,000 sets of sectional insulators for the contact network will be supplied, the use of which will allow for the modernization of 36% of the contact network.
"The railway remains the main transport artery of our state. Despite constant shelling, it ensures logistics and connectivity between communities. We are sincerely grateful to the Swiss government and the SECO Secretariat for their faith in Ukraine and for their systematic support," said Deputy Prime Minister for Ukraine's Recovery and Minister for Development of Communities and Territories Oleksii Kuleba.
As reported earlier, under a Swiss grant agreement more than 1.8 million Swiss rail fastenings from Schwihag AG worth over EUR 25.3 million were delivered, making it possible to carry out major repairs on approximately 500 km of railway lines.
The involvement of Swiss business became possible thanks to an intergovernmental agreement between Ukraine and Switzerland concluded in August 2025.
