Czech government to send generators to support Ukraine’s energy resilience
This was announced by Czech Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Petr Macinka at a briefing in Prague, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
According to the Foreign Minister, in coordination with the Prime Minister and a “group of partners,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is responding to the critical situation in Ukraine, where recent Russian attacks have caused prolonged power outages and, in some areas, disruptions to water supply.
“Therefore, I would like to announce that as part of humanitarian assistance we are sending generators – electric generators, diesel generators, and the like. Given the budgetary framework, the maximum amount we can allocate for this purpose is 10 million Czech korunas,” Macinka said.
The head of the Czech Foreign Ministry expressed hope that residents, primarily in the Dnipropetrovsk region, would be able to start using the generators as early as this week.
Macinka noted that the opposition has criticized the government for allegedly doing nothing for Ukraine, rejecting those claims and assuring that the Foreign Ministry has been working on the issue since Friday. According to him, the provision of aid is being coordinated with the Czech Embassy in Kyiv and directly with the leadership of Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“There is no need to boast about charity – charity should simply be done,” the diplomat said.
As reported, various funds are actively raising money to purchase generators for Ukrainians, managing to collect millions of euros. Most fundraising campaigns were launched amid intensified Russian attacks since the beginning of the year.
