Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko held a meeting with Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund Kristalina Georgieva, during which they discussed preparations for the adoption of the IMF support program for the next period.

The head of government said this in a post on Telegram, Ukrinform reports.

"I am glad to see Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund Kristalina Georgieva in Kyiv. This is an important sign of support for Ukraine. Her visit came at a time of a difficult situation in the energy sector due to unprecedented Russian strikes and the coldest winter in 20 years," the post said.

During the meeting both parties discussed the state of preparations for the adoption of the IMF support program for the next period, which is essential for supporting Ukraine's macro-financial stability.

The IMF chief also saw the consequences of enemy strikes on a large energy facility in Kyiv. Svyrydenko thanked Georgieva for her personal involvement in assisting Ukraine both with financial instruments and advocating for the country's support among partners.

As reported, Georgieva arrived for high-level talks with Ukraine's leadership. The IMF managing director is expected to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko, and central bank chief Andriy Pyshnyy, as well as business executives during her trip, one of the sources said.

Ukraine and the IMF reached a preliminary agreement on an $8.2 billion, four-year lending program in November, contingent on several actions, including passage of a budget and shoring up donor financing assurances.
