IAEA conducting another special mission at Ukraine’s energy infrastructure sites

Ukrinform
From December 1 to 12, 2025, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is carrying out another special mission at Ukraine’s energy infrastructure facilities that are critical for the safety of nuclear power plants.

This was reported by the State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine on Telegram, as cited by Ukrinform.

During visits to electrical substations, IAEA experts are assessing and documenting damages caused by Russian attacks, evaluating ongoing and planned restoration measures, examining the current capacity of the substations, and assessing their impact on the safe operation of nuclear power plants in Ukraine in the context of ensuring reliable external power supply.

“These substations are essential for nuclear safety and security. They are absolutely indispensable for providing the electricity all nuclear power plants need for reactor cooling and other safety systems. They are also needed to distribute the electricity that they produce to households and industry,” IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi said in his weekly statement on the situation in Ukraine.

The State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate reminded that IAEA special monitoring missions at Ukraine’s energy infrastructure facilities have been ongoing since September 2024, as a reliable and stable connection to the power grid is one of the main requirements for the safe operation of nuclear power plants.
