Despite the war, Ukraine remains a key player in the global vegetable oil market, with sunflower oil accounting for the lion’s share (89%) of the category, while the share of soybean and rapeseed oils is gradually increasing.

According to Ukrinform, this was reported by the Ukrainian Agribusiness Club (UCAB).

“After record revenues of USD 7.04 billion from oil exports in 2021, even under full-scale war conditions export earnings have consistently exceeded USD 5.6 billion annually. The 2024 figure (USD 5.76 billion) confirmed that this sector not only endured but successfully adapted to new realities, remaining a reliable pillar of the economy,” UCAB analysts noted.

Vegetable oils, as processed products, unlike raw commodities, have a more diversified geography. Europe remains the leader (60.9%), while the combined share of Asian and Middle Eastern countries exceeds 30%, reflecting strong demand for Ukrainian oil in distant markets.

Improved export logistics have also expanded the number of importing countries: in 2024, the figure rose to 139 (compared to 133 in 2023).

In 2024, deep-water Black Sea ports regained their dominant role, handling nearly half of all exports (compared to less than 15% in 2023). However, alternative routes — Danube ports and the Solidarity Lanes — continue to play a significant role, ensuring more than 45% of deliveries.

As reported, Ukraine exported 5 million tonnes of agricultural products in November 2025, up 12% from October. All product categories showed growth. Vegetable oil exports totaled 517,200 tonnes, up 1%. Export structure: sunflower oil – 79%, rapeseed oil – 13%, soybean oil – 8%.
