Poland will be economic hub for Ukraine – Morawiecki

Poland intends to become an economic hub for Ukraine, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki has said.

He said this at a briefing on Wednesday during the opening of a new temporary housing center for internally displaced persons in Borodianka, Kyiv region, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.

"Poland will be an economic hub for an independent Ukraine, we will try to help already today," Morawiecki said.

He noted that the EU had asked Poland to help transport agricultural products from Ukraine abroad.

"Poland was asked about this, and I said what our conditions are. We are receiving funds from the EU to increase capacity and improve infrastructure that will allow us to export grain and goods from Ukraine to the Middle East, Africa and other countries," Morawiecki said.

He noted that the export of about 50 million tonnes of grain from Ukraine to the Middle East and Africa, without which there could be a serious food crisis there, was the second major issue discussed during the European Council meeting on May 30-31 in Brussels. The first issue was Russia's war against Ukraine.

According to Morawiecki, several agreements are currently being prepared between the Polish and Ukrainian ministries, which, on the one hand, will help Ukraine and, on the other hand, give an economic impetus to Poland.

"These are agreements concerning the export of Ukrainian grain," he added.

He said that his country is also developing active cooperation with Ukraine in the military sphere.

Morawiecki stressed that the most important task now is to restore peace in Ukraine.

"We are focused on restoring peace, security and normal economic life as soon as possible," he said.
