Ukraine has the joint support of the United States of America and the European Union in synchronizing its energy system with the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity (ENTSO-E).

"We have the joint support of the US and the EU for our future synchronization with ENTSO-E. The Council [US-EU Energy Council] pointed out the importance of continuing to support the synchronization of Ukraine's electricity networks with the network of continental Europe. The Council also declared its readiness to support Ukraine in strengthening corporate governance," Minister of Energy of Ukraine German Galushchenko posted on Facebook.

Referring to the statement adopted at the meeting of the US-EU Energy Council, the minister said that the EU and the US reiterated the impossibility of using energy resources as weapons or levers of political blackmail. In addition, the Energy Council reaffirmed that Ukraine continued to be a key partner of the EU and the United States and expressed support for a strong and resilient Ukraine.

Galushchenko noted that the Energy Council encourages the study of new gas transit routes from the EU to Ukraine, including reverse flows. The US and the EU also plan to work together to diversify liquefied gas supply routes.

"The Council supports Ukraine on the path towards decarbonisation and the transition to clean energy, as well as expansion of our capacity for clean energy exports. Our partners identified the development of green hydrogen, as well as wind energy (both onshore and offshore) as a promising area for the US and the EU to ensure a carbon-free future," Galushchenko noted.

According to him, Ukraine has significant potential in these areas and intends to fulfill it to the uttermost.

"The goals and objectives set by the Energy Council for the development of the US and European energy sectors fully coincide with Ukraine's energy development plans and will be reflected in the Energy Strategy until 2050 currently being drafted," the official added.

The EU-US Energy Council, chaired by EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell and U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, was held in Washington on February 7. The Council discussed ways to strengthen transatlantic energy security and, in particular, to increase Ukraine's energy resilience and prevent the use of energy as a geopolitical weapon.
