Energy efficiency measures can save up to $1.5B every year – PM Shmyhal

Implementing energy efficiency measures in the utilities sector can save up to $1.5 billion annually, Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal has said.

"According to the Ministry of Economy, we can save up to $1.5 billion a year only by implementing energy efficiency and energy saving measures in the utilities sector," Shmyhal said at a meeting of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities in Odesa, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.

According to the prime minister, it is possible to reduce heat loss in networks, inside buildings. Shmyhal believes that these issues should be discussed as early as possible and then authorities will start preparing for the implementation of energy efficiency projects next summer.

As reported, the government has been working on an energy efficiency program that aims to upgrade at least 5,000 apartment buildings next year.
